President Trump‘s planned trip to the U.K. to meet the British royal family is approaching in October, but Queen Elizabeth made no mention of the state visit during a speech on Wednesday, fueling further speculation that it may be canceled.

In her speech at the opening of Parliament, the Queen did not address Trump’s visit, despite outlining the government’s plans for the next two years, including a state visit from the king and queen of Spain next month.

Trump’s visit — announced by British Prime Minister Theresa May shortly after the president’s inauguration — has stoked controversy in Britain, where more than 1.8 million people have signed a petition to cancel the trip for fear that it would “cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.”

The Queen’s speech comes after the White House denied reports that Trump recently told May he would not visit if there would be large protests against him.

But after the Queen failed to mention the president’s state visit on Wednesday, a senior Trump administration official told CNN: “She didn’t mention [the visit] because the date is not yet set.”

A Downing Street spokesperson also told CNN there was “no change” on the visit, adding, “The invitation for the state visit has been extended and it wasn’t mentioned in the speech as no date has been decided upon yet.”

Nevertheless, several political commentators in the U.K. took the Queen’s omission as “formal confirmation” that the visit was off.
