Prince George Shared Ice Cream With His Dog, and Now the Duke and Duchess Are Being Accused of 'Animal Cruelty'

For Prince George’s third birthday, his parents chose to mark the occasion by releasing four adorable new photos of his royal cuteness. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said they were delighted to share the images of the royal toddler in celebration of the occasion, including one particularly sweet snap of George picnicking with the family dog.

In the snap taken by photographer Matt Porteous at Anmer Hall, Norfolk, the royal couple’s country home, Prince George shares his ice cream with Lupo. Now, the royal couple is being criticized for allowing George to do so.

Though the picture is undoubtedly adorable, some animal cruelty campaigners say giving canines treats such as ice cream could be dangerous.

Experts warn that some dogs are allergic to dairy, and they say feeding it to them could result in digestive issues, including diarrhea. One animal charity told Mail Online that adult dogs are deficient in the lactose necessary for digestion of milk.

Taking to social media, activists were quick to express their concern over the photo. “Why is Prince George trying to kill this dog by feeding it a white Magnum?” one person tweeted. “Happy 3rd Birthday to Prince George!! Here he is poisoning a little dog,” added another.

One particularly angry tweeter referred to the Prince as a “Monarchist Monster” and said, “Never give a dog ice cream. At worst: it’ll die, At best: the dog will diarrhea everywhere!” Another went so far as to say Prince George should go to jail for the act. “Prince George needs chucking in prison for feeding that dog an ice cream, irresponsible animal cruelty paid for by the taxpayer,” the tweet read.

Kensington Palace has yet to release a statement on the manner. But maybe we should all just cut the little dude a bit of slack? It is his birthday, after all!
