Peter Kraus Will Not Be the Next Bachelor: Here’s Why
Moving on. Peter Kraus, the runner-up on Rachel Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette, likely won’t be the next Bachelor, according to franchise creator Mike Fleiss.
The outspoken executive producer of the show took to Twitter on Thursday, August 17, to share a tweet that appeared to be aimed at Kraus. “Do we really want a Bachelor who isn’t ready to settle down with a woman he loves?” Fleiss wrote. “Hmmm. Not what #thebachelor is all about ….”
According to People, the tweet was indeed intended for Kraus. “Peter is every Bachelor producer’s worst nightmare: the perfect guy who cannot be coerced into proposing at the end,” an insider told the magazine. “The fact that no one could talk Peter into buckling under and just giving her the ring—and that he wouldn’t play along—absolutely enraged the higher-ups at the show. Including Fleiss, definitely.”
Throughout the season, Kraus amassed a large fan following—as well as Lindsay’s heart—until he was one of the final two suitors to be featured on the show. In the season 13 finale, the Wisconsin-based personal trainer and Lindsay shared a contentious and heartbreaking conversation about whether he was ready to get engaged; Kraus said at the time that the act of proposing went against his beliefs and values.
“I did not want to propose at that point; it was a clear fact,” Kraus told The Knot and other reporters last month. “And the only reason why I was willing to do that was to prove to her that the level of love that I had for her at that time was enough to get me to make that big of a sacrifice in my life. And I think we both knew at that point, like, even doing it, it wouldn’t have been enough. It was too late. But I had to at least put it out there and give her the opportunity.”

Kraus also addressed the potential of becoming the next Bachelor in the same call. “Being the head of all this, being in Rachel’s position as I saw her go through throughout the entire time was a lot of pressure,” he said. “You are the face of a franchise, you’re the face of, you know, an entire population of people who love the show and love people on it. And that’s hard… And it’s got to be a really hard position to be in, but that’s all I can really say to it.
Lindsay, meanwhile, told reporters that she knew she was going to choose Bryan Abasolo even before that final conversation with Kraus. Viewers, however, felt conflicted about Lindsay’s final pick believing that she originally wanted to hand Kraus her final rose. “The more I peeled back the layers with Peter, I realized that he wasn’t that person,” Lindsay said in the same call. “And I think the proposal became such a focal point because that’s what happens at the end of the show, but that was not the reason that I didn’t choose Peter.“
Lindsay and Abasolo now vehemently oppose Kraus as the next Bachelor. “I think Eric would be great. He’s ready,” Lindsay told The Knot and others of her other finalist. “He’s out there now… He’s very in touch with his feelings.”
Abasolo, 37, added: “I think Eric is a great guy [with] a great heart. [A] very inspirational, motivational guy… I think he would make a great Bachelor.”
