Paul Rudd lost his mind on the “Civil War” set and stole Captain America’s shield

It must be fun and wish-fulfilling and overwhelming to walk among the Avengers, even if you’re Paul Rudd, and you’re technically one of them. He’s reprising his role of Ant-Man in Captain America: Civil War, and apparently the experience made him quite starstruck, bringing out the kid in him.

Rudd admitted to comedian Graham Norton that he totally “fangirled” on the set. “I was alone on Ant-Man. It was like working in a bubble, pretty much. And then, all of a sudden, I’m standing around and seeing Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man suit and seeing Chris Evans and they’re all there. I’ve seen the movies and I felt like I was 10 years old. It was crazy.” We can imagine it would be!

Of course, Rudd has absorbed his character’s devil-may-care attitude, and knew working on Civil War wouldn’t be complete without a practical joke on Captain America. One day on set, Evans went off to the bathroom and Rudd somehow convinced the prop master to let him hold the shield. But Rudd didn’t just hold it. No, no, no. He ran around with it and pretended he was actually Captain America (duh!). And he was shocked at the weight of the shield. “I was running around with it like, “Wow, it’s heavier than I imagined. But you know, it’s made of vibranium. Of course it’s going to be heavy.”

It probably would have been disappointing if he tried to pick up Thor’s hammer instead, but really, we can’t blame him for punking eternal do-gooder Cap. We would certainly like to hold that shield in our arms. And run around with it on the set of Captain America amongst all the superheroes from our childhood.
