Patrick Stewart Will Save America from Donald Trump Right After He Gets His Citizenship

Patrick Stewart, international treasure and an X-Man, told the hosts of The View that he’s applied for U.S. citizenship in order to “fight” Donald Trump.
“I’m not a citizen,” he told Whoopi Goldberg after she asked him about a mild tweet knocking the president. “However . . . maybe it’s the only good thing as the result of this election: I am now applying for citizenship because I want to be an American, too, because all of my friends in Washington said, ‘There is one thing you can do. Fight, fight, oppose, oppose.’ But I can’t do it because I’m not a citizen.”
He’s in a better position than some applicants because he’s worked in the country for at least 30 years and has been married to Sunny Ozell for at least three, the minimum requirement for applying when one has an American spouse.

Yet, the road ahead of him is long. Emily Blunt, another British citizen who’s married to an American (John Krasinski, one of our finest), told Jimmy Kimmel about the arduous process, and she didn’t even announce her plans to challenge the current administration prior to doing so (although it was only 2015). Besides a difficult test, she had to renounce her queen and confirm she was neither a drunk nor a prostitute. All this she did in the presence of Matthew McConaughey, whose wife, Camila Alves, was getting her citizenship on the same day (McConaughey is not a guaranteed part of the naturalization process, but maybe he should be).
Citizenship wasn’t the only method for dealing with the current predicament broached during the The View segment, though. Host Joy Behar pitched Stewart on the U.K. taking in President Trump, but he didn’t go for it. “We have our own problems,” he said, before saying, “We have Brexit.”
