Falling in love with 500 Days of Summer is basically a rite of passage. After all, what other movie fills you with hope, breaks it down to a pit of bottomless despair, and then builds you back up again, just in time for the credits?

500 Days of Summer is also the first time many of us fell in love with both Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. What few of us know, however, is that the pair were the romantic counter-parts in a movie pre-500 Days of Summer. That’s right: The pair starred in the 2001 indie film Manic.

Luckily, there are plenty of behind the scene shots for us to check out. And yes, they totally look like babies.

Look, it’s two of our favorite stars, just chilling (literally) on a bench. Relatable, yes? The heavy winter attire makes sense, given that these shots took place in Utah, at an E! party during Sundance, where Manic premiered.

Talk about throwbacks, are we right?!

Unlike 500 Days of Summer, Manic deals with some extra-heavy material. Without giving away too much of the plot, Deschanel and Gordon-Levitt play characters who are locked in a psychiatric facility and both struggle with their own mental health issues.
