“Modern Family’s” Rico Rodriguez’s dad has passed away

Devastating news for Modern Family fans. The adorable and hilarious Rico Rodriguez is mourning the loss of his father, Roy Rodriguez, who died last week at the age of 52. Rico posted a touching tribute to his late dad on Instagram, saying that “he was like a super hero,” and our hearts are breaking for him.

Rico, best known for his role as Manny Delgado on the beloved sitcom, revealed that his dad passed away on Instagram, adding that his dad “was the most kind-hearted, loving, hard working, determined, and funny man,” while sharing the sweetest photo of the two enjoying milkshakes together.

Rico’s dad passed away on Sunday, March 12th, according to Us Weekly, and is survived by his wife, Diane, and children, Rico, Raini, Roy Jr., and Ray. Rico, 18, is the youngest of his three siblings. Roy was beloved in the family’s Texas community; he owned Rodriguez Tire Service and was also the co-founder and president of the La Compania Car Club, according to local Texas news outlet KBTX.

Roy’s sister Janie Rodriguez told KBTX, “He was was an amazing man in all forms, no other man like him.”

Rico’s sister Raini, also an actor, shared an equally touching tribute to her dad on Instagram, saying “while it has been really difficult, we are all still standing tall and I know it’s because you are sending us strength and guidance all the way from heaven.”
