Models Were ‘Dropping Like Flies’ at Kanye’s NYFW Show

Kanye West’s New York Fashion Week shows are always unique — and with the latest one, as usual, he caused plenty of controversy in the run-up to it.

This year, Kanye staged his show on Wednesday at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island in the East River, and kicked off with an unconventional start at 4:49 p.m. instead of the scheduled 3 p.m. slot.

And this nearly two-hour wait in the New York City end-of-summer heat understandably took its toll on the models. As they attempted to stand completely still as part of a performance-art piece, they were apparently “dropping like flies.”

Choreographed by Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft, the piece consisted of models wearing the line assembled into rows along a huge runway.

But the heat was simply too much for many of them, who were photographed crouching on the grass and being given water by event staff.

Another tweeter said: “They’re still standing at Yeezy. Some are sitting. That’s it.”

The photos make it pretty clear that this wasn’t an occasional occurrence — you can see entire lines of women sitting in the grass.

It wasn’t just those standing who struggled to perform, either. Several had difficulties walking down the runway in their high-heeled footwear — model Amina Blue kicked off her Yeezy heels midwalk.

All this, plus a bevy of fashion editors annoyed that they had to take a bus out to an island, pretty much what we’d expect from Yeezy Season 4.
