Janet Jackson Is All Curls & Smiles In 'No Sleeep,' Her First Video In 7 Years

Miss Jackson slaying-ly returned to her pop throne today in her video for her new jam, “No Sleeep,” and it’s everyyything. The icon reunited with director Dave Meyers (he who’s responsible for the timeless magic that is “All For You”) for the first clip from her forthcoming LP, Unbreakable. JJ also reunited with her perfectly curly locks from the “That’s The Way Love Goes” era, except this time — dare we say it — they’re bigger and better than ever. The video finds the 49-year-old (who apparently does not age) all alone and aptly feeling herself (because she’s Janet f'n Jackson!) on a rainy evening in a moodily-lit, feng shui-friendly spacious pad. In the video, Janet sways on a plush couch before climbing the stairs and executing seconds of very casual choreography (a tribute to her brother, perhaps?). Upstairs, rapper J.Cole delivers his swaggy verses from a comfortable perch. Style-wise, we are very much feeling the classily covered-up, “wardrobe malfunction”-free Janet, especially with those stacked bangles/rosaries. (Also, do we spot a hooded cape moment that’s potentially Madonna-collapsing-shade?!) Considering it’s been seven long years since Janet’s last studio album, one might expect the tired comeback formula of a twerk-y club banger featuring nonstop choreography and salacious costume changes. Instead, the unbreakable artist cuddles with a pillow and offers a knowing grin. She’s back.
