Though the White House was hush-hush regarding the first lady’s Fashion Education Workshop that was held today in Washington, D.C., some of the schedule was announced prior, reported  WWD.

Five workshops were conducted based on journalism, wearable technology, inspiration, construction, and entrepreneurship with participating designers, executives, and editors such as Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Narciso Rodriguez, Thom Browne, J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons, Spanx’s Sara Blakely, and  Lucky’s Eva Chen. Additionally, a career and educational panel was given to 150 students interested in pursuing fashion careers from 14 schools in the surrounding areas.

Wearable technology is certainly an interesting area for Obama to investigate, given the recent news of the Apple Watch, but the White House said, “Today there are boots that charge your cell phone; bras that detect breast cancer; and compression shirts that monitor and record your heart rate, breathing rate, and body temperature as a virtual coach. As the lines between technology, product, and fashion merge, we will soon be surrounded with technology in everything we wear.”

Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour introduced Obama and delivered an opening address, perhaps returning the favor for when the first lady introduced Wintour at the Costume Institute’s Met Gala opening ceremony in May.
