Mariah Carey Misses So Many Notes at Christmas Tree Lighting

Mariah Carey is a legend, that much is undeniable. But on Wednesday night, the singer’s status was questioned for both her shaky performance of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and ridiculous festive look at the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting.

After reportedly failing to show up to pre-record her holiday hit prior to the live airing, the pop star, who also arrived late for her slotted appearance, the 44-year-old sounded off-key singing live. Thousands even took to Twitter to discuss the out-of-character act. “RIP Mariah Carey’s Voice,” Alysha Umphress wrote. Buddy Love added, “Mariah, love you. But you’re killing this song. Like literally it’s dead….please stop.”

But Carey’s voice wasn’t the only thing that missed a beat. Her over-the-top look took the holiday theme a little too far. Wearing a red gown with plunging neckline and sequin embellishment, she kept warm with a matching red fur stole. Disregarding the fashion rule to take off one accessory before leaving the house, Carey was dripping in diamonds, wearing a large snowflake statement necklace and shimmering bracelets, rings, and earrings. Drawing inspiration from Michael Jackson, she also wore one red leather fingerless glove.

The “Hero” songstress’s second outfit was just as weird. While her sparkly matte black trench and boots are cute enough, the sunglasses at night and return of a different single glove take the look into totally kooky territory.

Yet if there’s one redeeming aspect from Carey’s look, it’s her spot-on makeup. Her skin was perfectly fresh and dewy and nude lip to match. A winged eye and tousled curls added just enough flair.
