Marc Jacobs Gets Inspired by Diana Vreeland for His Fall Show

For the final show of New York Fashion Week, Marc Jacobs paid homage to one of the most beloved editors of all time, Diana Vreeland. The set, designed by the uber talented Stefan Beckman, was meant to evoke the famed editrix’s living room (which she lovingly referred to as a “Garden from Hell”). The clothes, however, were something entirely different. As is Jacobs’ custom, there is always a mash-up of references. There has been a slightly dominatrix-y thing happening this season, and the strictness of Jacobs’ models with shellacked hair pulled into a taut top knot with latex boots and black gloves seemed to riff on that a bit. Overcoats—some quite reminiscent of Jacobs’ designs from his Louis Vuitton heyday—were cinched at the waist. There were also full-length, floor-sweeping dresses that seemed a tad impractical (will those come in short people’s sizes?), but Marc does what Marc wants and we love him for it regardless. Plus, who are we to judge? Fashion is a personal choice. As Vreeland herself liked to say, “Style—all who have it share one thing: originality.”
