Liv Tyler, Chloe Sevigny, & More Star in Proenza Schouler’s New Film

These days, if you really want to be a cool brand, you have to go beyond just having cool celebs sit front row at your shows, or have Kim Kardashian or North West wearing your clothes. Proenza Schouler, still the coolest of the cool, has got their vibes on lockdown. On Instagram, they created “Fantasy Ad Fridays,” where they invite users to slap their logo on anything their heart desires to create the perfect ad, which has resulted in creations like “Pizza Schouler” and “Proenza Bueller.” Now, they have gathered an amazing group of women, a mix of models, artists, and actresses, for a short film called “Legs Are Not Doors.”

Sure, they’re not the first to shoot a film for a collection, but theirs, directed by Harley Weir and inspired by Real Sex, and Taxicab Confessions, those skeevy shows we all grew up secretly watching, is certainly one of the most beautiful. In the film, a group of women individually reveal secrets while the camera focuses on their features, their dresses, or, in my favorite scene, an egg being cracked atop a pair of snakeskin sandals. A very pregnant Liv Tyler says “I’ve always loved being a woman, I’ve never wanted to be a man, but I definitely think it has it’s challenges.” Meanwhile model Fei-Fei Sun reveals “I love hot milk.”

It’s a little esoteric sure, but it will surely completely captivate the women that think Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez can do no wrong (yes, I am talking about myself). It’s also a film, perhaps the only fashion film, that will find its longest life on Tumblr, as it’s sure to be a hit with the young teen feminists that inhabit it’s cyberwalls at night. They’ll reblog it and take screenshots, alongside images of Lana del Rey and works by Jenny Holzer.

Accompanying the film is a group of portraits also taken by Weir that will be published in the upcoming issue of artsy fashion it-mag Document Journal, which hits newsstands on March 30. Here’s an exclusive preview of forever cool-girl Chloë Sevigny, and supermodel Liya Kebede. Completely flawless.
