Talk about fitspiration.

Lena Dunham, writer, director, and star of Girls, was photographed by paparazzi while on a run outdoors in New York City. While many would balk at the idea of being shot sweaty and makeup-free, the actress surprised even herself by sharing the image on Instagram because, as she wrote in the caption, “this fills me with pride.”

"Basically my whole life I have hated running and run like a wounded baby Pterodactyl. It was embarrassing and honestly I did not trust myself to escape a burning building or even move briskly towards a buffet,” she shared. But, Jenni Konner, Dunham’s partner in crime on both Girls and the upcoming Lenny, is directing the hit show’s fifth season finale and decided that as Dunham’s character Hannah evolved, her run would as well. So Konner gifted Dunham a training session with Matt Wilpers from Mile High Run Club and Dunham writes, “Within an hour I had a different relationship to this formerly torturous activity. I felt strong, swift and proud. I’m not about to embrace that triathlon life but it’s a true joy to continue getting more connected to my body and its powers.”

She also gave a shoutout to the power of chic workout clothes, thanking Leandra Medine of Man Repeller fame for her collaboration with Outdoor Voices. Dunham actually has a “strong commitment to the self expression through the art of activewear,” having worn spandex covered in emojis to a Tracy Anderson Method class and geometric print pants to another. As she notes, “stretchy fashion statements are the only way I know to #keepitmoving.”
