If Celebrities Planned the Met Ball: Kris Jenner, Amanda Seyfried, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley & More Choose Their Dream Theme

“I wouldn’t do anything differently from how this one turned out,” said Kerry Washington when asked what theme she would choose for the Met’s next exhibition, on her way into the cocktail hour pre-dinner. But not everyone was so diplomatic when asked what they’d do if they were in charge of fashion’s party of the year.

“Disney!” said Poppy Delevingne, who stunned in a poppy-covered Marchesa. “I would probably be Aurora from Sleeping Beauty.” Diane Kruger was thinking Europe, “Something like the Belle Epoque,” she suggested. Imagine the gowns!

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley might have looked sweet in her blush Versace, but she went dark (or is just really, really committed to promoting her projects). “Post-apocalyptic,” she suggested, honoring the original Mad Max (she co-stars in the remake, out May 15th). When asked who might perform at such a thing she answered: “Mel Gibson.” (Gibson starred in the original.)

Leave it to Kris Jenner to bring the grandeur. The matriarch, who was thrilled to be at her first Met gala, said she’d love to see a Great Gatsby theme. “I’m just excited to be here and I’ve never been before,” she gushed. “I’m so excited to have been invited by Tommy Hilfiger and Dee, my dear friends, and I feel just blessed and honored to have an invitation. I can’t wait to see what goes on!”

Joseph Altuzarra went in the totally opposite direction, perhaps inspired by his date, The Americans star Kerri Russell. “What about Russian?” he said. “That would be amazing.” To which Russell agreed, “Very topical for me!”

But it was Amanda Seyfried’s imagined gala we’d most like to attend. If the actress, who’s currently starring in off-Broadway in Neil LaBute’s The Way We Get By and wore white Givenchy, were to choose the theme, the ‘60s would rule. “And Mandy Patinkin would perform Fiddler on the Roof,” she says. “Put that in there!”
