Bruce Jenner's GF Begs the Question: Is It Ever OK to Date Your Ex's BFF?

Rumors are swirling that Bruce Jenner might be dating his ex-wife Kris Jenner’s best friend, Ronda Kamihira. The 64-year-old Olympian and his longtime Calabassas, Calif., neighbor have known each other for 20 years and Kamihira, who once worked as Kris Jenner’s personal assistant, is considered a friend of the large family. But the couple’s supposed pairing has many wondering: Is it ever OK to date your ex-spouse’s BFF?

According to dating and relationship expert Samantha Daniels, while the practice is often considered taboo, there can be isolated incidents when it can be socially acceptable. “if you very directly ask your friend how they feel about it and you get the “unequivocal” green light, then you can go for it,” she tells Yahoo Style. But beware: “Unequivocal” means that they’re totally on board. If a woman responds, “it’s fine,” you should really know that means it’s not. “You know your friend so you should know if yes means “Yes!” Or Yes really means “NO way,”” Daniels explains.

Another time that it might be fine to date your friend’s ex is if enough time has passed between the breakup and getting together. “Sometimes relationships just don’t work out — there is no bad blood, no fighting, just a mutual decision that the relationship is not meant to be,” Daniels, who is the president of Samantha’s Table Matchmaker, a matchmaking website, says. “If your friend was in one of these types of relationships and your friend has moved onto someone new, this might be an instance where dating the ex could be okay. However, you still should ask if it’s okay, but in this instance it probably will be.”

If public appearances and joint statements are to be believed, it seems like Bruce and Kris are in the second camp. The pair have both said since their separation that the split was amicable and that they’re still friends. The Kardashian matriarch seems to be taking the Kamihira talk in stride. Appearing on Kathie Lee and Hoda Monday morning, the momager, who is promoting her new cookbook, told the co-hosts that she just wants her ex-husband to be happy. “I don’t care who he goes out with and I don’t know who he’s dating,” she said. “He doesn’t like check in with me and give me a play-by-play. But it’s his life and you just want the guy to be happy. You know he’s still the father of two of my children and so we’re friends.”
