Kelly Ripa Rewore Her Wedding Dress on Her 20th Anniversary Vacation

Kelly Ripa may have taken a few personal days last week following the unexpected announcement that Michael Strahan would be heading to Good Morning America, but she had always planned to take two days off to go on vacation with her husband. The co-host of Live With Kelly and Michael travelled to Turks and Caicos Islands with Mark Consuelos to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary — and she packed one really special dress.

“See that dress,” she told the live studio audience as she pointed to a photo of her and Consuelos. “That’s my wedding dress. And guess what — it still fits!” While Ripa’s been married — she and Consuelos eloped to Las Vegas in 1996 — for two decades, the dress is five years older. “I didn’t buy it as a wedding dress. I just bought it because it was really pretty, and I wanted to buy something from the Barneys Warehouse sale,” she explained. “I was working on the soap. I didn’t make a lot of money. It was $199 on final clearance sale. ‘Do I eat this week, or do I get this dress?’ Literally, this was the thought process.”

The decision turned out to be a wise one. “I said to myself, ‘I bet if I buy this, maybe it will be an investment piece. Maybe I will wear it more than once.’ I swear to you, I wear it constantly. It’s a beach cover-up now. I wear it all the time. It was the best $199 I ever spent in my life.”

Consuelos’s outfit, on the other hand, hasn’t stood the test of fashion time. “I don’t even remember what he was wearing. It was like a white linen jacket with a black shawl collar. He looked a little Travolta-y. In a good, sexy way, but in a very of-the-moment, of-the-time way.”

Ripa’s not the only one to recycle her wedding look. Liberty Ross wed Jimmy Iovine in January and then re-wore her silk gown on the red carpet in February at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. Keira Knightley wore her Chanel mididress multiple times before she said, "I do” in it. The British actress continued to wear it after her small wedding until she spilled red wine on it.
