Kate Middleton Wore Leggings, Is Secretly Sporty Spice

If the fairytales are to be believed, then one of the reasons why Prince William fell for Kate Middleton when they were students at the University of St. Andrews was because of how to down to earth she was. They went for walks in the woods, drank beer at the local pub, went hunting with the Queen’s corgis, and skiing in the Alps. Now, as the parent of two heirs to the throne, it seems that her adventurous spirt still comes out sometimes between dressing up in Jenny Packham for galas and attending charity events across the kingdom.

On Friday, after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sat down with a group of young people and visited a photographic exhibition entitled ‘Mute: are you being heard?’ from a mental health project run by Ynys Môn and Gwynedd’s local 'Mind’ charity in Caernarfon, Wales, the married couple strapped in for some fun — literally. The 33-year-old changed out of her suede boots and elegant wool coat for black pants and a red windbreaker to do some abseiling. What is abseiling you fashion-minded person ask? Well, watch the video of Kate gamely participating for an explanation. But also, according to a quick Internet search, abseilen in German means “to rope down,” or, as the practice is known as stateside, rappelling.

But more important than the princess’s athletic prowess was the fact that she wore leggings. Yes, like every other woman in the world who has adopted athleisure as their sartorial saving grace, the royal occasionally dresses like a soccer mom, too.

There are just so many things to love. Happily ever after!
