Jennifer Lawrence Complained About Equal Pay to Lena Dunham

There’s a reason Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t publicized her views on feminism (which is surprising considering part of charm is she doesn’t seem to have a filter). She explained in Lenny Letter, Lena Dunahm and Jenni Konner’s new feminist newsletter, that her reasoning stems from the fact that she hates trends (again, shocking because she’s one of the trendiest girls out there). “But with a lot of talk comes change, so I want to be honest and open and, fingers crossed, not piss anyone off,” the 25-year-old wrote in the introduction of a personal essay on her fight for equal pay in Hollywood.

When the Sony hack took place over the summer, it was revealed that compared to her male counterparts, Lawrence was making a lot less than, in her own words, those “lucky people with dicks.” She admitted to failing as a businesswoman because she didn’t want to fight over millions of dollars that she doesn’t really need (this problem isn’t exactly relatable, but she’s the first one to point that out) and also she didn’t want to be perceived by her male counterparts in a negative light. “This could be a young-person thing. It could be a personality thing. I’m sure it’s both. But this is an element of my personality that I’ve been working against for years, and based on the statistics, I don’t think I’m the only woman with this issue,” she wrote.

But in just a matter of a few words, Lawrence made an attitude change. “I’m over trying to find the “adorable” way to state my opinion and still be likable! F*** that,” she exclaimed. “I don’t think I’ve ever worked for a man in charge who spent time contemplating what angle he should use to have his voice heard. It’s just heard.”

And Lawrence was actually true to her word. While co-stars Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner on the film American Hustle might’ve beat her out, she seemingly went into her next negotiation guns blazing. For the forthcoming movie Passengers, a romantic story set on a spaceship. she’s making $20 million — even more than her love interest Chris Pratt.
