Gigi Hadid’s Oversize Turtleneck: Fashion Statement or Barrier to the Cold?

We get it. It’s getting cold; sometimes you have to sacrifice style to stay warm. But usually it’s obvious — like balaclavas, unless someone secretly knows how to make those look stylish, in which case please let us know. Leave it to Gigi Hadid to cause a conundrum over style versus self-preservation.

The model was spotted in NYC Monday, when temperatures dipped below 30, all bundled up in black and white. She was wearing a white knit turtleneck, a belted black-and-white striped coat, ripped black jeans, black ankle boots, and sunglasses. With her turtleneck pulled up to her nose, Hadid barely looked prepared for the weather, unless she was wearing some thermal underwear underneath her chic, yet impractical, outfit.

So we would not have been surprised if she was hiding half her face in the turtleneck to keep warm, especially since she looks kind of creepy. But it’s quite possible she was simply starting a new trend — oversize, extra-tall turtlenecks.

It’s not like she doesn’t own a puffer coat that would have been much warmer yesterday; she was recently spotted out in a silver Tommy Hilfiger puffy jacket (over another very tall turtleneck).

What do you think: tall-turtleneck trend or just a way to stay warm?
