Tons of celebrities take photos of themselves to post to Instagram, but Hugh Jackman's latest pic is more than just your typical selfie. The actor posted the above shot of himself with a bandaged nose to show the repercussions of regularly skipping SPF - and as a warning against it.

"An example of what happens when you don't wear sunscreen," the caption reads. "Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups." Basal cell carcinoma is also the most frequently occurring form of skin cancer, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, with an estimated 2.8 million new cases each year.

This isn't Jackman's first post warning his fans about skin cancer. Since 2013, after going to the doctor to have a spot on his nose checked out that just wasn't going away and finding out it was cancer, he's been open with the public about his battles with basal cell carcinoma. In mid-2014, he posted this photo of "another basel cell carsinoma [sic]," thanking his doctor for the treatment and advising his fans to "PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN!"

We all know we're supposed to wear sunscreen each day, but being knowledgeable about SPF versus putting it into practice are two very different things. Before you leave the house, always put on at least SPF 30 - even in the winter - and pop on a wide-brimmed hat if it's particularly sunny outside.

On top of your skincare routine, be sure to get regular checkups from your physician each year. Examine your skin every so often and talk to your doctor if you notice any suspicious moles. Being alert and diligent with your skin could save you down the road.
