Hillary Clinton Wore a Dress for the First Time During the Election Season

Hillary Clinton’s love of pantsuits is well known (and well documented), but that’s not to say that the woman who hopes to be Madam President doesn’t know how to rock a dress.

Though the Democratic presidential nominee has yet to wear anything but pants since hitting the campaign trail last year, she wore her first gown of this election cycle to the Alfred E. Smith dinner in New York City on Thursday night.

And it wasn’t just any plain-Jane look; it was a hot-pink dress that was both feminine and structured, all at the same time, with a collared neck, tone-on-tone belted waist, and full draped skirt.

If the color looks familiar to you, it’s probably because it’s strikingly similar to the bright pink worn by Melania Trump to the second presidential debate. At that debate, Mrs. Trump wore a Gucci pussy-bow blouse and trousers all in the brightest of pink, which may or may not have been a reference to her husband’s now-infamous comments about grabbing women by their genitals.

Was Hillary Clinton sending a message of solidarity to Melania Trump, welcoming her into the liberal fold should she decide that the “boys’ talk” that she has forgiven her husband for is no longer excusable, especially in the wake of yet another woman coming forward with allegations of having been groped by Donald Trump? Could be.

Or maybe after her unapologetically confident pro-choice explainer at the third and final presidential debate on Oct. 19, Clinton wanted to drive the point home with a subtle shout-out to Planned Parenthood, the reproductive and sexual health care provider vilified by many Republicans, including Donald Trump. Planned Parenthood, after all, just celebrated its 100th anniversary on Oct. 16 — and is known for asking its supporters to wear hot pink to #PinkOut the vote on election day.

Or maybe she just likes the universally flattering color.
