Heartilage Piercings Are the New Earring Trend You’re Going to Fall For

Gone are the days of only rocking simple studs: With so many cool piercing styles popping up, we're all about finding new ways to wear jewelry. We fell for L.A.'s constellation piercing trend last October, and now New York has a new one for us: "heartilage." It's clever portmanteau PopSugar came up with to describe a heart-shaped cartilage piercing, and they're currently popping up all over Instagram.

One of the most visible piercers doing heartilages works at West 4 Tattoo, where celebs like Bella Hadid and Kylie Jenner go for their ink. It's there that Robbie Milian works his magic by taking a typical cartilage hoop piercing, removing the bead, and bending it into a little heart. He also pierces the cartilage with two holes, like with an industrial piercing, so he can loop the metal through both. The two holes have to be perfectly lined up to make it work, so it takes some serious skill.

The end result is dainty, but it makes a big statement.

Milian has been doing heart daith piercings—where he adds a heart-shaped piercing to the inner part of the ear—for a while now, so it's cool to see him moving up the top of the ear and getting creative.

Although getting a piercing is a pretty long-term commitment, this look has some flexibility to it: If you get tired of the heart, you can just swap it out for a bar or a couple of studs. As if we could love it more.
