With an eclectic theme and balmy temperatures, the Met Gala will likely be pleasing to Gwyneth Paltrow this year.

After attending the annual event in 2013, the Goop magazine founder declared she wouldn’t be back. “I’m never going again. It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all,” Paltrow told USA Today.

But this year, she’s back — and wearing her favorite color. In a pale pink dress from Calvin Klein (she actually attended her first ball in 1995 with the brand and shared a flashback on Instagram earlier in the day with the hashtag #fullcirclemomentcomingup) the 44-year-old looked incredible for her grand return.

The shade is one she’s worn to multiple red carpets, including when she won the Oscar in 1999 in a Ralph Lauren ballerina dress and to the Academy Awards in Ralph & Russo in 2015.

The last time Paltrow walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum was in 2013, wearing a hot-pink gown with a sheer illusion neckline. She pulled her hair back in a simple ponytail and kept her makeup natural.

In 2015, she even threw some subtle (yet adorable) shade towards the Met Ball by sharing a photo on Instagram of her daughter Apple wearing a onesie with monster feet. “This was the red carpet in my house last night,” the actress wrote in the caption.

So what made Paltrow change her mind about the Met Gala? It might have something to do with her company’s new partnership with Condé Nast, a sponsor of the event. Goop will be releasing a quarterly print issue with the publisher, with the first edition hitting newsstands in September.

The business relationship, according to WWD, was actually born out of a conversation between Paltrow and Wintour. “Anna is a powerhouse, and one of the most admirable thought-leaders in media,” Paltrow said. “Collaborating with her and Condé Nast on this multiplatform content partnership, anchored by Goop’s emergence into a physical entity, was an opportunity for us to push our boundaries visually and deliver Goop’s point of view to consumers in new, dynamic ways.”

Wintour, who’s Condé Nast’s artistic director and the longstanding editor in chief of Vogue, could also have played a major part in Paltrow attending. Wintour is the mastermind behind the whole night (she’s a Costume Institute trustee and has served as co-chair of the fundraiser since 1995) and the keeper of the guest list.

And, as Jennifer Lawrence once said, “nobody can say no to Anna Wintour.”
