Green Beauty Lovers Will Freak Over This New Spray Deodorant

My penchant for wearing black and changing my outfit at least three times before I walked out the door helped get me hooked on dry spray deodorant. And anyone who's attempted to remove white, chalky, seemingly permanent deodorant marks from a black tank in a matter of minutes will understand.

So give me a new can and away I will test, hopefully sparing myself zebra stripes on my knit tee, odorous underarms, and irritation in the process. My latest test subject? J?S?N's new Dry Spray Deodorant ($11 each; Whole Foods Markets), a particularly exciting launch because it's one of the first dry spray deo lines I've ever come in contact with in the green beauty realm.

While it's not advertised as totally natural/organic, the product, which is available in three different scents, falls into the green, ingredient-conscious category because they are free of aluminum, parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, petrolatum, and sodium laureate sulfate.

I'm guessing your first question is if it actually works, given the performance of some natural deodorants could be deemed questionable. I put both the Fresh Cucumber and Men's Forest Fresh to the ultimate test of three different and disgustingly sweaty workout sessions and a hiking trip with a dude I really, really didn't want to experience unpleasant underarm stank around.

I applied the Fresh Cucumber about 20 minutes before a boot camp class and a 4-mile run on the treadmill. I found them a little more "damp" feeling than traditional dry spray deodorants within the first spritz, but the product dried down in a matter of seconds and was incredibly cooling. Post workout, I still felt, and more importantly, smelled like some version of a fresh cucumber, I guess. The most important point is that I didn't smell any B.O.

Next up? Men's Forest Fresh. To be completely honest, I don't know what a man's fresh forest is really supposed to smell like, so the most accurate description I can give you is that the deo smells like a men's cologne or bath product, but it's not overwhelmingly powerful or headache-inducing. And no one is going to know you're wearing men's deodorant if that's a concern, but it totally shouldn't be because why is that something to stress over?

I applied this before a 3-hour hike and used it the day before on a run and an abs workout class and my impression was strikingly similar to Fresh Cucumber, though I could still get a good whiff of the manly scent.

In my opinion, if a deodorant works, doesn't leave my underarms painful and itchy, it's a success. And obviously, bonus points for keeping harsh chemicals out of the mix.
