Giuliana Rancic Confirms "Fashion Police" Returning to E!

To say that E!’s Fashion Police hasn’t been the same since the death of Joan Rivers is an understatement. Rivers was replaced by Kathy Griffin, and awards season appeared to be off to a good start. But then Giuliana Rancic made a controversial joke about Zendaya’s hair, which prompted Kelly Osbourne’s departure, which was then followed by Griffin’s exodus. In the end, however, it looks like Rancic’s on-camera apology worked; the 40-year-old TV personality’s just confirmed that the show must will go on! On Wednesday’s Access Hollywood, Rancic confirmed that both she and E!’s Fashion Police will return this fall.

The show has made a name for itself by being divisive, which is what prompted two of the four hosts to bid adieu, but Rancic says the unremitting noise is all the more reason for the show to resume. “I think more than ever, Fashion Police is definitely coming back, because the controversy shows that a lot of people were watching the show and enjoyed the show,” she said. “So yeah, it’s coming back in September, in time for the Emmys.”

While Brad Goreski, who joined the show after Rivers’s death, is slated to come back alongside Rancic, she noted that there are two more seats to fill. Not surprisingly, she was tight-lipped about what everyone really wants to know—who will fill them?

According to industry insiders, after Griffin’s departure, there were talks about adding diversity on the talk show. Personalities like Nene Leakes, Khloe Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen, and the vociferous Amber Rose have reportedly been considered. But maybe it’s time for another man—someone like Tim Gunn?—to join the predominantly feminine ranks. Regardless of who does, they have massive shoes to fill. Rivers offered a once-in-a-lifetime mix of humor, balls, and shamelessness that made everyone want to watch. When Rancic tried her brand of humor, well, it didn’t work. And that could be the real problem: Will the show no longer be full of tongue-in-cheek/border-line offensive humor it’s so well known for because Rancic, Goreski, and others will be burdened with hyper-political correctness?

If Griffin—the queen of “#unapologetic” slapstick comedy and strong-as-bull persona—couldn’t handle more than seven episodes, who can?
