Prom season calls for fancy updos and even fancier dresses, but if you don’t have time to peruse the racks at the stores, then you can turn to the world of online shopping. While it’s totally possible to get a beautiful prom dress from a website, high school student Juliet Jacoby found out the hard way that sometimes virtual appearances can be deceiving.

Juliet told Seventeen.com that she spotted the beautiful first image of the prom dress online, but didn’t want to spend $149. Instead, her mom bought the same dress on a different website for only $35.

“When I opened the package, I gasped and was shocked by how ugly it was. I cursed a little, and I was floored on how it looked nothing like the picture I saw!” she explained. “I FaceTimed my friend and she laughed because it was so ugly.”

That was just one of many issues with the dress. Seventeen.com reports that the package arrived two weeks late and the zipper was broken before Juliet could even try it on.

“I waited in front of the garage door to see what my mom’s reaction was, and all she did was stand there with the most shocked face for about five seconds, then burst out laughing,” Juliet continued. “My dad said I could still wear it to prom, but I was like, hell to the no! I will not wear this to prom.”

Luckily, Juliet had ordered a backup dress, which she’ll wear instead to her prom next week.

Juliet’s story is a hilarious lesson about paying close attention to what we’re ordering online. At least with prom dresses, if the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
