Fashion Has A New Favorite Bird

They say three’s a trend, and if that’s the case, let us be the first to call it: the parrot is officially hot, you guys.

We first noticed the parrot making an appearance at Giles’ show in London last week, but just days into Milan Fashion week, the big red bird has already emerged as a theme. And whereas Giles featured the parrot as a relatively subtle motif in a larger floral print, there is absolutely nothing subtle about its appearances in Milan.

First we saw them alighting on models’ ears at Stella Jean as giant cuffs, the scale of which rendered all other ear cuffs basic. That same day we saw them in multiples on shirt collars and skirt hems at Gucci.

Then again on Paula Cademartori’s pre-collection clutches and purses, which were shown along with her new spring line yesterday at Milan’s swanky new Mandarin Oriental. We don’t think it’s too early to call the parrot the new flamingo.

No word on where we’ll spot this wily bird next, but we’ll keep our binoculars out.
