Victoria’s Secret Wants You to Treat Yo Self
Fake holidays are Hallmark’s, well, hallmark, but Victoria’s Secret, the world’s largest purveyor of lingerie and employer of impossibly attractive women, is getting in on the game as well. On May 2, the brand will be celebrating the first annual International Bombshell’s Day, in which it’s encouraging ladies around the world to treat themselves.
Most likely inspired by Tom and Donna’s “treat yo self” on Parks and Recreation, Bombshell’s Day wants everyone—not just their Angels—to take time out for pampering and doing those things that are reserved for special occasions. “I love a good massage — you know the ones that hurt but feel so good afterwards,” Elsa Hosk, one of 10 models to just earn her wings, tells Yahoo Style as to how she enjoys indulging. “Also, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I love to shop!” Veteran cherub Candice Swanepoel also loves getting massages but adds facials to her spa package. As for me, I left the office when the sun was still up on a weekday—a rarity and treat in and of itself—for a manicure, pedicure, massage, shopping combo with my favorite co-worker.

But while spoiling oneself is Victoria’s Secret’s main prerogative for its inaugural holiday, it’s also encouraging individuals to include friends and loved ones in the festivities. For Hosk, she would take her mom. “I would want to give her everything she wants and do the things she loves,” she says. “We would probably go to a cool museum and go for a walk to take photos—she loves art and photography.”
The idea of a clothing company creating a holiday is kind of ludicrous (I mean it’s obviously an unveiled ploy to push goods) but one that encourages something as luxurious as taking time out of your day to relax, I don’t really care how explicit the promotion is. Pass the cucumbers, it’s time to unwind.
