Cult-favorite brand Creatures of the Wind has earned a reputation for being one of the more creative shows at New York Fashion Week. The label was named one to watch by no less a fashion authority than WWD, and has been featured in publications ranging from Vogue to Dazed & Confused, making it one of those rare labels that appeals to both high-fashion gatekeepers and the edgy upstarts of the style world. Designer 411: New York favorite Creatures of the Wind consists of dynamic design duo Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters. Their aesthetic blends together past subcultures — we see hints of mod and classic rock ’n’ roll style in this collection — with a clean, modern edge. And the Creatures of the Wind woman loves a little quirk: whether a bold-striped shoe, oversized earring, or a slightly wild print.

The scene: The show took place in a Masonic hall with decadent gold crown molding and rich contrasts of forest green and burgundy, with Renaissance murals lining the walls. Feeling very much part of the royal court. To complete the vibe, Julee Cruise played over the sound system — yep, the lady from “Twin Peaks” who sings ethereal love songs at the biker bar.

The sell-out: We loved the English floral dresses with lace inserts in the sleeve and neckline, paired with rock ’n’ roll snakeskin booties, for a very elevated-grunge look. Expect to see them sell out quick once they hit stores.
