Blessed be the fruit. The Handmaid’s Tale is returning for a second season. We can hardly wait to see what happens next to Offred (a role that scored Elisabeth Moss an Emmy nomination — just one of 13 for the series) in the disturbing dystopian future of the hit Netflix series. Also, we’re still REALLY hoping that Drake shows up in Season 2.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moss expressed how thrilled she was by the response to The Handmaid’s Tale, and hinted at what comes next for Offred.

Of course, she had to be vague to avoid leaking spoilers. But she did drop some intriguing tidbits about what we can expect upon our return to Gilead.

She seems almost excited as we are!

“Well, I’ve read the outline for the first episode, and it is fucking ridiculous. [Laughs] It’s insane! I can say this: There is literally no way that anyone can guess what happens. You can try, but you won’t do it. It’s incredible. We’re really looking to blow people away, and we have every intention to break [the story] open and go even further in all directions. We have no intention of doing anything else than being even more balls to the wall than we were in Season 1.”

All we have to say is hell. Freaking. Yes.

The man painstakingly making sure my dress is perfect, is the inimitable force that is my dresser Rudy Rojas. He was on set before I arrived, at my side every single hour of every single day, and was still at work after I had wrapped. And I worked almost every single day for over 5 months so you can imagine how much that was. He is not only one of the most professional men with a brutal eye for detail ( he can see a crooked bonnet when nobody else in the world can) , but he worked tirelessly to help bring Offred/June to life. I would quite literally not have been able to do this show without him. He kept me warm when I was freezing, made me feel safe and confident, and the best part did it with a smile and a generous kind spirit. So grateful for your work Rudy and I love you. On a more serious note, Moss also took some time to discuss the disturbing real-world parallels of the show.

Remember, Season 1 was filmed before the 2016 presidential election. She talked about how art can provide a mirror, and start important conversations about serious topics. That’s something we need more now than ever.

“I think we’re constantly surprised — I think surprised is a nice word for how a lot of us feel as citizens of America. We wanted to make something that reflects us back upon ourselves. If that parallel is useful to people, if it can provide strength or illumination or a conversation, then that’s a gift. That’s not always something you get with your art; sometimes it’s just entertainment, which is totally awesome. It’s kind of nice when you can do something you feel passionate and personal about.”

Praise be. We feel the exact same way and are so thankful that The Handmaid’s Tale can help us process troubling real-world news during difficult times. Is it time for Season 2 yet?!
