Continuing the trend of non-traditional fashion shows today was DVF, which treated show goers to an experience at the label’s HQ. As we stood in a constructed hall waiting to enter the venue, a video of Irina Shayk, Lily Aldridge, Kendall Jenner and a few other A-list girls talking about their mothers looped, setting the mood for a girl power-filled show. Once inside, it was like walking through a gif-based editorial. The downstairs area was transformed into an enormous set, each room with models flitting through – they popped in and out of doors, did very important werque in an office, and twirled through a hall of mirrors, all in the designer’s latest.

Upstairs, we found Von Furstenberg herself onstage with a girl gang of buzzy models, which included Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Jourdan Dunn, Irina Shayk, Elsa Hosk, Lily Aldridge and Alanna Arrington.

The girls snapped instax photos of each other, sipped champagne, danced around with the designer, at a point, singing a round of Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family,” before parading through the crowd in a conga line.

The clothes were classic DVF, giving off a strong 70s vibe which you could feel in the relaxed-fitting jumpsuits, draped disco diva maxi dresses, and the many (many!) pussybows the designer provided this season. Details like bell sleeves, pleats and ruffles added to the overall feminine mood of the collection, and fur accessories lent some lushness to a few outfits.

A small capsule collection of limited edition looks from the collection are now available at the DVF website, further tipping the industry’s needle towards a more consumer-conscious way of approaching contemporary and high-end fashion.

While the clothes were a bit of a throwback (in the best of ways), it’s clear Von Furstenberg isn’t stuck in the past when it comes to her business.
