Do People Really Want These Legs Jackets?

Have you ever seen it raining outside and said to yourself, “Man, I really wish I had a jacket for my pants, right now”? No? You just stay inside? That makes sense.

If you have thought that before, however, you’ll be thrilled to hear about this weird new product invented by a company called VEAR. Inspired by harsh Scandinavian weather, founder Valentin Nicoara wanted a pair of pants that were easy to get on and off and would protect his legs from the weather in Denmark. “I searched endlessly for a product that would solve this problem but couldn’t find anything so I made my own — now I wear them every time it rains! People saw mine and asked me where they could get a pair of their own, so now we’re on Kickstarter,” Nicoara wrote on the product’s Kickstarter page.

While we’ve never personally felt the need for what VEAR named a Legs Jacket, we kind of see the point. Sometimes when we try on pants in a store, it’s annoying that we have to take our shoes off first. Or, when we’re skiing and just want to de-layer a little while we enjoy some hot cocoa, it would be nice if we didn’t have to take off our ski boots to do so. And, it definitely sucks when we sit down on a wet bench and ruin the seat of our pants. However, how often does that happen? For many people, not frequently enough to warrant a $160,000 fundraising goal that would allow us to purchase Legs Jackets in multiple colors and for our entire families. Nevertheless, the company has far surpassed its initial funding goal of $22,000 and is currently approaching $100,000 in total funding.

The VEAR Legs Jacket zips up the sides of the legs — like a regular jacket does the front of the body, features tons of pockets, is made of waterproof material, features reflective tape, fits loosely like a pair of ski pants, and really doesn’t look very stylish (even though they say so).

Right now they come in two versions (one is made of more high-tech material) and one color: black. And when the sun comes back out, the jacket folds up into a tiny pouch, so your real outfit can steal the spotlight.

The company has received a ton of positive feedback.

“Been needing something like this for quite some time. It is not such a difficult thing to see the need for a zipper in the pants, thanks for taking the initiative, already placed an order :)” one supporter said.

“Hey. They look very good. Shared it on facebook. hope I’ll receive the shoe protectors for the rainy cycling season :)” said another. That reminds us: The pants also come with matching shoe protectors that slip over your favorite flats or sneakers on a rainy day to protect them from the elements. Needless to say, they are about as stylish as the pants themselves.

We’re not sold just yet. We’ll wait for a sleeker version.

Would you rather stay in or brave the rain in something that would probably ruin your outfit?
