This DIY Breakfast Sausage Will Blow Your Mind

Sweet and savory sausage patties fall right next to bacon when it comes to breakfast meats we absolutely love. You don’t need a meat grinder or smokehouse to make delicious sausage at home, just a skillet. These Easy Homemade Breakfast Sausage patties contain 40% less saturated fat and half the sodium per serving compared to popular commercial brands, and no artificial additives. A batch of 16 sausage patties takes just 25 minutes from start to finish, perfect for a big crowd or freezing ahead.

We start with lean ground turkey, then add a little ground pork for richness. Dark maple syrup lends a touch of breakfast-y sweetness, and fresh herbs brighten the mix. A cast-iron pan gives the patties a crispy, caramelized crust. The size of each sausage will be similar to a slider patty, about 31/2 inches wide and 2 ounces each. To freeze, place cooked patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until firm, then seal in a ziplock plastic freezer bag. To reheat, place two patties on a microwave-safe plate, cover with a paper towel, and microwave at HIGH 60 to 90 seconds or until heated through.

The patties would be a delicious addition to any breakfast spread. For a breakfast-for-dinner twist, top toasted English muffin halves with a mustard and mayonnaise spread, a hot cooked sausage patty, sautéed spinach, and green apple slices. Serve with crispy roasted potatoes. You could also go a more traditional dinner route by serving the patties with a fresh cabbage slaw and hot cooked brown rice.
