This Couple in Their 80s Met and Got Married in Retirement Home, Proving It’s Never too Late for Love

Wedding bells are ringing at a retirement home in Mississippi where two octogenarians married this week.

Robert Holler, 84, and Doris Ladner, 89, tied the knot at a ceremony in their retirement home in Diamondhead, Miss. The two met at the Woodland Village senior care home and fell in love.

Holly Ford, the administrator at Woodland Village, told WLOX that this is the first time two residents have married at the home.

Staff at the nursing home say the couple are always holding hands, and that Holler brings Ladner coffee every morning when she wakes up. Holler was reportedly the first resident to greet Ladner as she moved into the community, and it was love at first sight.

Their wedding was officiated by Father Paddy Mockler, and attended by family and friends as well as the staff and residents of Woodland Village. There was dancing and a cake at a reception held after the ceremony.

Both Holler and Ladner have been married in the past — Ladner twice and Holler once. This is not surprising are approaching a century of life.

Meanwhile, another couple recently celebrated 75 years of marriage at a retirement home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Karl and Elizabeth Gfatter renewed their vows at a ceremony held at the River Valley Care center last year.

The Gfatters were married not long after graduating high school. In 1941, Karl’s father bet him $1,000 the marriage wouldn’t last a year. Gfatter says his father paid him in cash.
