Cat Finds New Home After 13 Years Confined to an Attic
Everyone is guilty of banishing various family heirlooms and knickknacks to the attic and forgetting about them for years - even decades. It's a pretty horrifying thought; however, to imagine a pet with the same fate.
Earlier this month, the Humane Society of New York received a disturbing call from a man who admitted to confining his cat - who didn't have a name but boasted striking emerald-green eyes - to the attic for an astounding 13 years. According to the Humane Society's record of the call, the man said he and his wife wanted to "get rid of their cat" before they moved. The man went on to say, "I hate this cat and this cat hates me - and my wife hates her too."
Luckily, the Humane Society of New York took in the female cat, providing food, shelter and loving attention. They named her Andrea.
Anne-Marie Karash, the associate director of the Humane Society of New York, told POPSUGAR that at first Andrea wouldn't come out of her bed, not even to eat, but after two days, she started warming up to her new caregivers. After consistent love and affection, Karash wrote that Andrea grew to adore chin scratches and stretching out on warm, sunny days.
After just six weeks of recovery in the shelter, Andrea could be absolutely sure that better days were ahead: She was adopted! Her new owner was looking for "a cat to love, cook for and to keep her company while she listens to opera" and Andrea was a perfect match, according to Karash. Andrea moved into her new home just before the holidays and we're so happy she's finally found the loving owner she deserves.
