Cara Delevingne Would Rather Lose a Job Than Lose Weight

Even the most beautiful, confident, and seemingly self-assured celebrities can be affected by hurtful tabloid gossip, according to Cara Delevingne.

The 22-year-old opened up to WSJ for a revealing new profile, in which the model-turned-actress—known widely for her ‘no f–ks given’ attitude—discusses the backlash she’s received for simply living her life in the public eye. According to Delevingne, her penchant for partying and alleged weight gain (which supposedly cost her last year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show) have actually caused her to lose jobs.

“It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, ‘So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight,‘” she tells the mag. Though, naturally, her response to the negativity is the verbal equivalent of a bird flip: “It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”

And it sounds like it’s that same kind of criticism that’s drawn Delevingne deeper into her new acting career. “With acting, the last thing you do is try to look pretty,” she says. “Modeling actually makes acting harder—it makes you so self-aware.” That may be true, but she sure looks amazing in the previews for the upcoming John Green film she’s starring in, Paper Towns… Maybe modeling and acting aren’t mutually exclusive, after all.
