Jessica Chastain proves she’s the ultimate chameleon in the November issue of W magazine. The fashion tome revealed its latest cover — “Jessica Chastain Like You’ve Never Seen Her Before” — featuring the flame-haired actress, but at first glance you might not recognize her. Style director Edward Enninful completely transformed Miss Chastain into different characters, from a pink-haired Givenchy-clad goth princess to a Saint Laurent-loving biker chick.

Chastain, who can currently be seen in The Martian and will appear in the upcoming Crimson Peak, revealed one of her ultimate career goals: “One of my goals is to play a villain in a Bond film. People ask me if I want to be a Bond girl, and I say, ‘No, I want to be the villain.’ I’m waiting for that call!” She kind of gets to live out that fantasy in the shoot, wearing a platinum blonde wig shaped like Danny Zuko’s and an oversized Vetements coat. In fact, her shape-shifting for roles has led to confusion in the past over who she is — and who she wants to be. “It did confuse people. I would hear, ‘Who is the real Jessica?’ a lot. They rarely say that about men. They never worry about ‘knowing’ them.”

One weird thing though: the press release we received says that Chastain’s funky look “channels Kylie Jenner.” Could it be the exaggerated eyebrows? Overdrawn lips? Big hoop earrings? Multiple wig changes? Whatever it is, the comparison seems somewhat insulting. Chastain is something of a style icon in her own right, so we’re a little confused as to why she should have to channel an 18-year-old when she’s a grown woman.

Not only is she a style icon, she’s a role model as well. She went to Julliard, worked for decades as a struggling actress before hitting it big, and has shown nothing but class in the tabloids throughout her years in the spotlight. It’s interesting timing to peg Chastain, an actual role model, with Kylie Jenner, a really questionable one. On Saturday Night Live, host Amy Schumer pointed out that there aren’t many famous women to look up to. “We have to be a role model for these little girls. Because who do they have? All they have, literally, is the Kardashians,” Schumer said. “And is that a great message for little girls? A whole family of women who take the faces they were born with as a light suggestion?”

Chastain already has a beautiful face — why hide it?
