“Burned Out” Raf Simons Turns the Heat Up on Banal Sweaters

Three favorite cozy sweaters from Raf Simons’ Fall/Winter 2016 collection

Raf Simons resigned as artistic director of Christian Dior last October saying that he didn’t have time, nor the energy to really create. But for his Fall 2016 men’s collection, which he showed last night in Paris, the conceptual clothes on the runway suggested he’s no longer ‘burned out.’

Just take a look at his sweaters: there were several variations on a distressed, oversized sweater (some even with varsity letters! How’s that for your #TBT?). And though many were tattered, they would be perfect for this weekend’s “Winter Storm Jonas.”

There were also sweater necks removed from their bodices, and worn almost like a scarf, or a large statement necklace. And coincidentally, a similar garment (if you can even call it that) was shown last week at Prada in Milan! We’re waiting for a third to call it a trend…

Yes, the fashion is wacky— plunging v-neck sweaters over hoodies, dress shirts, and suits— but these statement looks (especially those oversized) are sure to be big hits with the likes of Kanye West and J. Biebs next fall.
