All hail this year’s prom kings and queens of DIY fashion! Duck Brand, the maker of Duck Tape (aka duct tape), the strong-as-steel adhesive tape your college boyfriend swore by, has announced the winners of its 17th annual Duck Brand Stuck At Prom Scholarship Contest — and these teens are living the dream in their one-of-a-kind duct tape duds!

After spending almost 3,000 collective hours (that’s 125 days!) and using up nearly 1,000 rolls of Duck Tape, high schoolers from across the country created memorable prom looks from very unconventional materials (Project Runway‘s Tim Gunn would be proud!), and contest winners took home a total of $50,000 to put toward their college tuition for their taped-up tuxedos and stuck-on gowns.

Inspired by their school’s Enchanted Gardens prom theme, 1st place Couples Category winners Emily O’Gara and Ethan Weber’s colorful and coordinated look combined a strong geometric pattern and painterly flowers, complete with matching shoes, a hexagon-shaped purse, and a crafty corsage!

Allison Pollman secured the Singles Category crown by stenciling and hand-cutting “lace” to overlay her strapless, dark purple gown. She even added some glittering “gems” to the dress by hole-punching sparkly duct tape! The look only took 13 rolls of tape and 79 hours of labor to complete. No big deal.

Who knew Duck Tape is the new black? Second place winners Megan-Marie and Brandon, that’s who! From Brandon’s hat to the buttons on his shirt and Megan-Marie’s earrings, necklace, and nails — ALL DUCT TAPE!

Now, if you will excuse us, we have to swing by Home Depot because it’s date night, and mama needs a new dress!
