British Tourist Dies From Falling Off Hotel Balcony

A British man fell to his death from the balcony of his hotel in Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, officials say.

The 43-year-old tourist was vacationing in the popular resort area of Playa de las Americas when he plunged off the second-floor terrace of his hotel complex. Neither the hotel nor the man has been identified publicly, but the tourist is being referred to as G.R. by the Canary Islands police.

He is believed to have been alone when the incident occurred, and a spokesperson from local emergency services said in a statement:

“We received a call just after 3 a.m. this morning alerting us to the fact a man had fallen from the second floor of a tourist complex and was injured. We activated an immediate emergency response and sent an ambulance to the scene with trained paramedics. However the victim died at the scene before of the severity of the injuries he had suffered.”
