Boy George Loves Kanye, Thinks Rihanna Is Sexy & Calls Justin Bieber 'Cute As Hell'

“I have a really good friend who says, ‘You’re a guy…like a real guy. And people don’t know that. They think you’re a big screaming queen,’” Boy George tells Yahoo Style’s Joe Zee in the latest episode of Style Sessions. “And that’s the thing that’s really weird…you can’t put me in a fluffy pink box.”

The British music legend is busting myths and answering questions on his recent comeback tour, celebrating the return of Culture Club. For one, George—who’s a David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust aficionado slash punk-rock pioneer—loves Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. He calls Justin Bieber “cute as hell” and when asked what single word comes to mind about Kanye, he counters: “How could I say one word about Kanye!”

Contrary to popular belief, makeup is not part of his daily routine. And despite Culture Club’s wild success, fame didn’t come easy. “People thought that I was just too freaky or looked too much like a girl,” George admits. He even recalls a time in the ‘80s when his mother wouldn’t let him leave home because of his outfit choice. But his style, which he calls “kind of junk shop, thrift shop,” was likely the best thing that happened to him. It’s how George caught the attention of the publisher who helped catapult him to worldwide fame—and it’s also how the moniker “Boy George” came to be.

As someone who’s always shown his true colors, George is glad society now not only accepts, but publicly embraces others for who they are. “When I said to America, ‘You know a good drag queen when you see one’ people literally died. It was kind of the end of my career,” George says, pointing to Caitlyn Jenner as an example of how things have changed for the better.
