Designer Rick Owens has established a cult following among celebrities and fashion tastemakers for his impeccably crafted basics made predominantly in everyone’s favorite color: black. But while he counts Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, John Mayer, and even first lady Michelle Obama as fans, his latest item for sale might not have his famous clientele — or many others, for that matter — clamoring to snatch up the one-of-a-kind piece.

The designer is selling a skateboard deck (and just the deck), available at Selfridge’s, for more than $15,000. “Handcrafted out of petrified wood, this one-off skateboard deck, custom made by the Rick Owens team is a truly luxe way to travel,” the item’s description reads.

Interestingly, there’s no actual traveling that can be done with this slab of lumber (kind of defeating the point of a skateboard, in general) because wheels aren’t included — and are even discouraged from being attached. Keep reading and it’s revealed that “due to the delicate nature of this item it is a display piece only, skating is not advised.”

Well, without being able to roll, skating would definitely be out of the question. And if you’re going to spend a small fortune on a glorified piece of driftwood, the investment piece should probably be kept safe from further destruction and deterioration.

But the possibility of someone buying the dressed-up scrap lumber isn’t completely out of the question. The designer has such die-hard supporters that there’s even a Tumblr page called peoplewearingrickowens.tumblr.com, dedicated to tracking his items on everyone from Taylor Swift to street-stylers.

And Kim Kardashian, perhaps Owens’s biggest fan of all, was spotted multiple times in the past few weeks rocking turtlenecks that retail for more than $1,000 each. Maybe this level of adoration from one-half of the “world’s most talked about couple” means that Owens can sell such an impractical item for an exorbitant price. The Wests are known for their unique and extravagant gift-giving (who could forget the George Condo-painted Birkin bag that the reality star was gifted?), so maybe the skateboard deck is already wrapped up with a bow and on its way to Yeezus.
