Beyoncé made her first public statement since giving birth to twins
It’s been just over a week since Beyoncé and JAY-Z welcomed their twins into the world, and the internet has been throwing out guesses regarding the gender of the twins, their names, and when they were actually born. Fortunately, Beyoncé finally made her first public statement since giving birth, and as sweet as it is, we were hoping for a little something about the twins. (But we totally get why she chose not to mention them.)
At the BET Awards on Sunday night, Beyoncé won the Viewer’s Choice Award for Lemonade‘s “Sorry.” Since she’s a little preoccupied right now with tending to her newborns, she wasn’t able to attend the show. But she did manage to write an acceptance speech that she asked Parkwood Entertainment R&B duo Chloe x Halle to read for her.
The sisters called Beyoncé an “iconic artist, a trendsetter, a rule maker, a rule breaker, and our forever inspiration and mentor.” Then they read this speech direct from the mouth (well, hand) of Bey:
“Thank you BET for this award and your tremendous support of Lemonade. This has been a journey of love, of celebrating our culture, honoring the past, and approaching the present and future with hope and resolve. Thank you to my mother Tina Knowles Lawson for being my biggest, biggest teacher and consistent influence. Thank you to my entire family for so much love. To my team at Parkwood, thank you. And thanks to all the fans, my BeyHive, for riding with me. I love and appreciate you. To everyone at the show tonight, you all look so beautiful, and [everyone] at home, thank you and have a wonderful, wonderful night. From, Beyoncé.”
