The awesome Jaden Smith is launching his own line of gender non-conforming fashion

It can be hard for the children of celebrities to step out in their own light, but Jaden Smith proves that it’s not impossible to be known for being you.

The 18-year-old son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith revealed to Variety magazine that he’s launching his own fashion line called MSFTSrep — and it’s the perfect extension of who he is himself.

Smith told the magazine that MSFTSrep is for “the girl that wants to be a tomboy or the boy that wants to wear a skirt,” something he knows a lot about since he was signed to be the face of Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2016 women’s collections.

“It’s pronounced ‘misfits.’ I took the ‘I’ out of ‘misfits’ because we’re a team and there is no ‘I’ in team. It’s a place for the lost kids and everyone to go, and something for them to have,” he said.

He continued, “We’re here for you… If someone at your school’s trying to pick on you, it doesn’t matter because Jaden Smith’s got your back.”

“I always knew no one was going to understand me — since before I could talk — and that’s why I was so quiet,” Jaden revealed. “I was very calm, very to myself. I could tell I felt about life differently than other kids; I could tell by the way they treated me.”

When he was asked who he thinks his strong sense of self comes from, he had no hesitation in answering.

“Me, of course,” he said. “My parents told me that the world was harsh and that we had to be strong within ourselves.”

It’s not easy to stand up and be a little different in our world, and it can be especially challenging for those in the spotlight, but Jaden makes it look so easy.
