Airbnb Reveals the Top Neighborhoods to Stay and Play in 2016

As many move away from hotels, home share services thrived in 2015.

Leading the pack was Airbnb, which had more than 40 million people stay in homes in 150 countries last year.

While we know that Airbnb is big in cities like New York, the company released a list of 16 neighborhoods it believes will be trending in 2016. The predictions were based on the percentage growth of inbound guests staying at Airbnb’s in certain cities from 2014 to 2015.

A common thread among the 16 cities is that many travelers chose to stay to visit in order to immerse themselves in art, food, and outdoor experiences. Many of these areas are residential and located outside of busy downtown districts. Airbnb reports that these locations allow travelers to have a host who can show them around and help them experience the city like a local.

Here are the 16 Airbnb neighborhoods that will be trending in 2016:

1. Chūō-ku in Osaka, Japan: 7000% growth

2. Banglampoo in Bangkok, Thailand: 1230% growth

3. Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: 1200% growth

4. Capucins in Bordeaux, France: 960% growth

5. Koukaki in Athens, Greece: 800% growth

6. Triana in Seville, Spain: 770% growth

7. Hammerbrook in Hamburg, Germany: 415% growth

8. Kaneohe on Oahu, U.S.: 320% growth

9. Meireles in Fortaleza, Brazil: 285% growth
