Anna Wintour Traveled All the Way to China to Promote the Met Gala

It’s no easy feat putting together the Metropolitan Museum’s annual Costume Institute exhibition. In fact, many members of the team traveled across the world for preparations. In this exclusive clip from the forthcoming documentary The First Monday in May, a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to stage the annual Met Gala and its accompanying show, Anna Wintour, Wendi Deng, Wong Kar Wai and others are seen schmoozing with China’s elite ahead of the opening.

“China: Through the Looking Glass I think is meant to be inevitably controversial,” curator Andrew Bolton said. “There’s going to be dissenters but I’m not afraid of controversy and I think the show should be controversial and provocative.”
