Alexander Skarsgård is a beautiful man — and makes a stunning woman.

At the premiere of his new movie, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, on Monday night, the Swedish actor walked the red carpet at San Francisco’s Castro Theater in a floor-length gold dress. He paired the gown with crystal-embellished heels — even though he’s 6 feet 4 inches without them — carried a silver clutch, and accessorized with large gold hoop earrings. He also had on a feathered blonde wig and full face of makeup, including fake eyelashes, blushed cheeks, and a statement pink lip.

In the forthcoming film, the 38-year-old plays Kristen Wiig’s boyfriend, who has an affair with her 15-year-old daughter. The teenager, played by Bel Powley, has sex for the first time (her first line is: “I had sex today. Holy s***!”) and the story focuses on her coming of age and, in a larger sense, women’s views on sex.

Skarsgård decided to dress just like a glamazon from the ‘70s to fit in with the rest of the crowd. The evening was hosted by Brian Benson, who was the first assistant director on the movie, as his alter ego Cousin Wonderlette. So Benson referred Skarsgård to Amie Sarazan, who is the head of costumes for Peaches Christ Productions, to collaborate on a drag look. The pair discussed inspiration and when Charlie’s Angels came up, Skarsgård knew exactly who he wanted to look like. “I guess Alex really liked Farrah Fawcett,” Sarazan tells Yahoo Style. “He pretty much sent the photo of the dress and said I want that and I definitely want that gold handbag.” Sarazan also designed Powley’s dress, which is based on a scene in the movie where her character has an acid trip and turns into a bird.

Skarsgård, who’s best known for his role on HBO’s hit True Blood and, more recently, as Alexa Chung’s new boyfriend, attended the after party still decked out in gold. “… he sure is pretty,” Heklina (formerly known as Trannyshack), a drag queen and nightclub owner, wrote on Facebook alongside a selfie.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time the tall, muscled Skarsgård has worn a dress. In the 2006 Swedish film Kill Your Darlings, Skarsgård played Geert, a suicidal transvestite. His role as Eric Northman on True Blood also had him in drag.
