A DHL Executive Wore Vetements’ DHL Shirt Because Life Is Good

A hoodie featuring Jack and Rose from Titanic, JNCO-style trousers screen-printed with a Star Wars movie poster, and “Antwerpen” slogan shirts were all highlights of Vetements’ Spring 2016 runway show in Paris last October — proving that, when it comes to tapping into popular culture’s unwavering love of irony, the French brand has got the goods.

Another standout? A simple yellow tee with the DHL logo in red block letters, now being being sold for $330. According to the product description on Matches Fashion, the cotton-blend top doesn’t mock the German shipping giant but instead “pays tribute to the heritage courier service.” And it seems DHL agrees: CEO Ken Allen, a man who has access to all the free DHL shirts he could possibly want, recently wore a Vetements shirt during a fashion show at a DHL office. Talk about meta.

In fact, DHL’s global head of organizational communications, Lee Nelson, shared a “Who Wore It Best?” on his Facebook page comparing the executive and original catwalker, Russian streetwear designer Gosha Rubchinskiy. “Fashion history in the making,” he wrote.

The clear winner of this fashion face-off? That would be Allen, who paired the sunny shirt with business slacks and a black hoodie with red detailing. DHL employee Veronica Sanchez commented “#CoolestCEO on earth,” and her co-worker Ramya Ragupathi asked, “Is it crazy that I think the answer is really Ken??”

No, Ramya, not crazy at all. Ken Allen is clearly the winner — of life.
