Gucci is turning our youth-obsessed culture on its head with its latest advertising campaign. The timeless fashion house chose esteemed, veteran British actress Vanessa Redgrave, 79, as one of the faces of its new Gucci Cruise 2017 collection, an animated line that was inspired by “the English penchant for decoration,” according to Women’s Wear Daily.

The campaign was shot at the Chatsworth House, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, by British-born photographer Glen Luchford. In one ethereal shot teased on Gucci’s Instagram, the graceful Redgrave — who’s won awards ranging from a Tony to an Oscar for her roles in theater and on the silver screen — stands in a garden on the Chatsworth grounds wearing a floral-printed ruffled silk top with Web stripe trim and pleated skirt. A matching handbag is perched on the handle of a shovel in front of her. She dons a straw sunhat and holds freshly picked lavender in her hand.

Redgrave looks regal as she smiles at a fellow model, who sports a black “plush long coat with panther embroidery,” according to the caption, while steering a wheelbarrow filled with roses. A little girl can be seen gardening in the forefront in the eerily glamorous shot. According to the Chatsworth House website, the 105-acre gardens have a rich history, having evolved for more than 450 years.

Redgrave is in impressive company, as several other brands are breaking down walls recently by tapping famous older women to front major fashion campaigns. In July 2016, Saint Laurent photographed 72-year-old folk-music icon Joni Mitchell at her Bel Air, California, home strumming her guitar while modeling a tunic from the brand’s Folk collection as well as a classic YSL fedora in the brand’s Music Project campaign.

In February 2016, Italian model and actress Sophia Loren, still stunning at 81, was featured in a high-profile fragrance campaign for Dolce & Gabbana called Dolce Rosa Excelsa: the Film. The short film was an homage to Italian cinema, and Loren was joined by director Giuseppe Tornatore and composer Ennio Morricone.

And back in July 2015, Céline debuted a campaign that spotlighted legendary author Joan Didion looking supermodel-chic in a pair of statement shades. At the time, Vogue called her “the ultimate Céline woman: brilliant, creative, vaguely recalcitrant.”
